Diethylene glycol distearate (DGD)
A removable embedding medium for thin and thick sections. In thicker sections the exterior surface of mitochondria can be observed whereas in resin-embedded thin sections the mitochondria are most frequently observed in a cross section. DGD (diethylene glycol distearate) is used to prepare tissue for immunofluorescent localization of cytoskeletal components. It is also used for tissue preparation for in situ hybridization with nucleic acid probes.
