Description

Microring XV for identification of Haemophilus species

Paper ring with individual printed tips containing X (Haemin), V (NAD), or X+V Factors. Haemophilus species vary in their requirement for X and V factors and can be identified by their growth patterns close to the tips. V-tip also contains δ-aminolaevulinic acid (ALA) for Porphyrin Test.

Method of Use: A suspension of test organism is spread onto agar plate of tryptone soy agar or Columbia agar (without blood). One Microring XV is laid on top of agar, and plate is incubated overnight at 37°C. Following incubation growth patterns around each tip are read and used to identify the organism. The porphyrin test is best performed at the start when the ring is laid on the plate prior to incubation. Take a loopful of organism from a growing culture and spread lightly over the V-tip. After 6 hours incubation, the plate is examined under ultraviolet light. Non-haemin requiring species will cause an orange-red glow to be seen from the V-tip.

Features:

  • Ready to use
  • More convenient than individual discs
  • Porphyrin test allows early identification
  • 2 year shelf life

50 rings per package
