Product Description
Aqua-Poly/Mount
Aqua-Poly/Mount is a water-soluble, non-fluorescing mounting medium formulated for mounting microscope sections directly from aqueous solutions. It is commonly used in immunofluorescence workflows because it helps preserve fluorescent labeling during coverslipping and imaging.
This mounting medium can also be used for frozen sections, fat stains, and immunostains when an aqueous mounting medium is required. It is used with many fluorescent dyes and stains as well as chromogenic and enzyme-based detection systems (for example, DAB, alkaline phosphatase–Fast Red, AEC, and other chromogens), depending on the protocol and compatibility requirements.
Under typical laboratory conditions, Aqua-Poly/Mount is designed to set under a coverslip on the microscope slide in approximately 24 hours. Setting behavior can be influenced by ambient temperature and relative humidity (for example, higher humidity environments may affect drying/setting time).
It is also used in workflows where minimizing leaching or loss of staining signal is important, including certain enzymatic staining protocols (for example, TRAP), depending on the overall staining and mounting process.

FAQs
Common questions about Aqua-Poly/Mount.
-
What is Aqua-Poly/Mount used for?
Aqua-Poly/Mount is an aqueous mounting medium used to coverslip microscope sections from aqueous solutions. It is commonly used for immunofluorescence and other staining workflows where a water-based mountant is needed.
-
Why is “non-fluorescing” important for fluorescence microscopy?
A non-fluorescing mounting medium is intended to minimize background signal from the mountant itself, which can help improve contrast when imaging fluorescently labeled samples.
-
Can Aqua-Poly/Mount be used with chromogenic stains like DAB or AEC?
It is used in workflows that include chromogenic systems such as DAB, alkaline phosphatase–Fast Red, and AEC, as well as other chromogens. Compatibility depends on the specific stain chemistry, tissue processing, and protocol steps.
-
How long does Aqua-Poly/Mount take to set under a coverslip?
It is designed to set on the slide under a coverslip in approximately 24 hours under typical laboratory conditions. Actual setting time can vary with temperature, humidity, and mountant thickness.
-
When would I choose an aqueous mounting medium instead of a solvent-based mountant?
Aqueous mountants are commonly chosen when samples must remain hydrated or when solvent-based clearing steps are not compatible with the stain, tissue preparation, or imaging goal. The right choice depends on the specific workflow.
-
Does Aqua-Poly/Mount help reduce leaching or loss of staining signal?
It is used in workflows where reducing leaching or de-staining is desired, including some enzyme-based staining protocols (for example, TRAP). Outcomes depend on the full staining and mounting procedure.
